ABOUT US
We are like a big family. We welcome you with great atmosphere and good italian coffee. The workshop is on the first floor of Palazzo Fondulo, in the heart of Cremona, near the Cathedral.
The harmonious proportions of the façade, the frescoes of the early 800s, the restoration of the antique fireplaces and of the flooring in “lombard terracotta” make this place unique. A small entrance opens on large exhibition halls with decorated walls and ceilings, hosting an exhibition of antique Italian musical instruments. Origins of this imponent structure date back at least to the 16th century.
From existing documents, this was the mansion of brothers Giovan Paolo and Giulio Fondulo, a family name that, in Cremona, is often cited in a significant way (for example, the famous and terrible Cabrino Fondulo was “Signore di Cremona” (Master of Cremona) in the 15th century.
Testimonies confirm the existence, on this area, of two monasteries, one dedicated to Maria Magdalena, initiated in the year 1592 and finished in 1618, and the other built in 1613 by Bishop Giovanni Battista Brivio, from Milan. This complex was enlarged and united obtaining one large monastery of Benedictine nuns, and their church dedicated to the saints Joseph and Magdalena. In 1784, the monastery was suppressed. The building was purchased by architect Voghera, to make it his personal lodgings, while the other half was transformed in a parish house for the Cathedral in 1791.
Saint Joseph and Magdalena’s church was destroyed. Since February 2007, the building has been taken in charge by the Diocesan Institute Sustain of Clergy that undertook renovations to bring the Palace to its antique splendor.
